Charging Basics

Level I - 120 Volt
Level I is the standard charging speed for electric vehicles through a 120-volt outlet. This is the type of outlet in a typical home where you plug in any device that needs electricity. Level I provides the slowest charging speeds, typically only a few miles per hour of charging, but it is the safest method of charging an EV and helps protect overall battery longevity.

Level II - 240 Volt
Level II offers much faster charging speeds, reducing charging times by over a dozen hours. Most EV owners find that they can recharge their vehicle from 10 to 80 percent in the afternoon or overnight. A 240-volt outlet or power source is required for a Level II charging station and typically requires a professional installation. Most homeowners only have a 240-volt outlet if they have an electric clothes dryer. Level II charging is also available at public charging stations where owners can recharge their vehicles at work or while running errands.

DC Fast Charging - Public Stations Only
DC Fast Charging is commercial fast charging unavailable for residential locations. You can find DC public charging stations around Parsippany, NJ, and along major highways nationwide. Plugging into a fast charging station is convenient and typically returns most of the range in less than 30 minutes.

- 23 miles in all-electric mode

What's the Difference Between Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid?

Audi PHEV: The PHEV operates like a hybrid, but its battery is significantly larger, allowing for fully electric driving for some 20 to 50 miles, depending on the vehicle's weight and configuration. The battery is big enough that you can (and should) plug it in regularly. When the battery is sufficiently charged, a PHEV gets propulsion from its electric motor across a wider speed range than a hybrid.

Audi Hybrid: In a mild hybrid, the battery is smaller, and how it's kept full relates to burning gas. The hybrid system uses an internal combustion engine and an electric motor for propulsion, with the electric motor going it alone when accelerating from rest and the gasoline engine joining as speed builds1. The energy harvested from regenerative braking is saved in a small battery and reused the next time the driver accelerates.
